Turtle 1
Adult & Toddler
Progressions:
- Enter and exit the water safely
- Kick and recover to standing
- Walk through the water
- Travel on front and back and stand up
- Blow and propel an object
- Navigate obstacles
Additional information:
- The presence of a swimming teacher or assistant in the water is optional
- Buoyancy aids may be used to support the swimmer’s confidence and ability

Turtle 2
Adult & Toddler
Progressions:
- Travel 2 metres on front blowing bubbles and stand up
- Travel 2 metres on back with alternating leg kick and stand up
- Star float on front and back
- Paddle and play – travel with a ball
- Push and glide on the front and back
- Roll from front to back
Additional information:
- A swimming teacher or assistant in the water is optional
- Buoyancy aids may be used as needed to support skill development and confidence

Turtle 3
Adult & Toddler
Progressions:
- Understand poolside safety and learn how to recognise poolside safety signs
- Safe entry, travel on front, turnaround and return, safe exit
- Submerge face and blow bubbles
- Travel 5 metres on front (using ‘doggy paddle’ arm action) and on back
- Roll from back to front and return to back
- Jump or step into the water holding parent/teacher’s hand

Seahorse 1
Non Swimmer Widths
Progressions:
- Enter and exit the water safely and independently
- Scoop the water and wash the face
- Be comfortable with water showered from overhead without goggles
- Unsupported, flat floating position on front & back to regain standing
- Push from the wall in a flat position on front & back – arms by side or streamlined
- Travel 5 metres unaided on front and back in water out of their depth

Seahorse 2
Non Swimmer+ Widths
Progressions:
- Jump in from poolside & submerge with & without goggles
- Push and glide on front & back in a streamlined position
- Float, tuck to rotate, float – front to back & back to front
- Perform a log roll – back to front & front to back
- Unsupported and unaided, travel 5 metres kicking on front & back
- Travel 10 metres unaided on front and back in water out of their depth

Seahorse 3
Beginner Widths
Progressions:
- Correctly identify 3 of the 4 key water safety messages
- Always swim in a safe place
- Always swim with an adult
- If you fall in, float, breathe, relax
- If someone else is in trouble, call 999 or 112
- Push & glide and log roll, keeping arms extended – front to back & back to front
- Fully submerge to pick up an object & swim through a hoop
- 10 metres recognisable swimming without goggles
- Push & glide and travel 15 metres of a recognisable frontcrawl & backstroke
- Travel 15 metres using a dolphin & breaststroke type leg action

Seahorse 4
Beginner Lengths
Progressions:
- Travelling log rolls – front to back and back to front
- Perform a sitting dive into a streamlined position
- Travel 5 metres, tuck up, rotate and return – front to back & back to front
- Sink, push and glide on front & back in a streamlined position and transition into 10 metres of swim
- Kick 10 metres breastroke and butterfly
- Swim 20 metres frontcrawl and backstroke

Seahorse 5
Improver Lengths
Progressions:
- Perform the following skills: 3 different shaped jumps, handstand, forward roll
- Head first sculling action for 10 metres, flat on back
- Perform a kneeling dive into a streamlined position
- Kick 20 metres frontcrawl and backstroke
- Kick 15 metres breastroke and butterfly
- Swim 40 metres frontcrawl and backstroke

Seahorse 6
Advanced Lengths
Progressions:
- Perform a standing dive
- Tread water for 30 seconds & demonstrate an action for getting help
- 10 metres feet first sculling action on the back
- Push and glide and swim 20 metres frontcrawl & backstroke (Swim England standard)
- Push and glide and swim 20 metres breaststroke & 10 metres butterfly (Swim England standard)
- 100 metres of choice stroke (Swim England standard)

Stage 7
Platinum 60
Progressions:
- Sink, push and glide, kick and rotate into frontcrawl & backstroke
- Swim 10 metres wearing clothes & perform a shout and signal rescue
- Push and glide and swim 40 metres frontcrawl & backstroke (Swim England standard)
- Push and glide and swim 40 metres breaststroke, including rhythmical breaths (Swim England standard)
- Push and glide and swim 20 metres butterfly, including rhythmical breaths
- Perform a dive and transition into 20 metres frontcrawl to include a forward somersault

Stage 8
Platinum 60
Progressions:
- Perform a dive from a diving block
- Tread water using eggbeater action for 30 seconds
- Push and glide and swim 60 metres frontcrawl & backstroke (Swim England standard) including tumbleturns
- Push and glide and swim 60 metres breaststroke including touch turns (Swim England standard)
- Push and glide and swim 20 metres butterfly (Swim England standard)
- Push and glide and swim 200 metres using 3 different strokes (Swim England standard)

Stage 9
Performance 60
Progressions:
- Complete a set lasting 400 metres (e.g. 16x25m, 8x50m, 4x100m) on a specific turnaround time agreed by the teacher or coach
- Perform the correct competitive turn from 10 metres in to 15 metres out for each stroke
- Track or grab start, underwater streamline with fly kick or A Pull to a max of 15 metres, transition into appropriate stroke for 1 length – complete for all strokes
- Swim a continuous 4×1 individual medley (Swim England standard)
- Perform a continuous 4×1 individual medley kick without using a kick board
- Swim 400 metres continuously using one stroke (Swim England standard) including turns

Stage 10
Performance 60
Progressions:
- Complete a set lasting 800 metres (e.g. 16x50m, 8x100m, 4x200m) on a specific turnaround time agreed by the teacher or coach
- Complete a set lasting 1600 metres (e.g. 16x100m, 8x200m, 4x400m) on a specific timed turnaround set by the teacher or coach
- Swim a continuous 4×2 individual medley using recognised turns
- Perform a continuous 4×2 individual medley kick without using a kick board
- Perform a frontcrawl relay take over – as an incoming & outgoing swimmer
- Swim 800 metres continuously using one stroke (Swim England standard), including turns
